About Comply Assistant

Industry: SaaS / Healthcare Compliance

Product: HIPAA compliance management and healthcare GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) software

Engagement start: May 2025

Service provided: SaaS Link Building and Technical SEO Preparation

The Challenge

ComplyAssistant operates in healthcare compliance software — a YMYL niche where Google applies heightened scrutiny. Thin authority or weak backlink profiles don't just slow you down — they disqualify you from ranking entirely. ComplyAssistant had a strong product, but online, they were nearly invisible:

  • Commercial keywords were out of reach. "Healthcare GRC software" sat at position 7. "Healthcare compliance software" was stuck at position 18.
  • Domain rating was 30. Too weak to compete in a trust-sensitive healthcare category. Competitors with stronger backlink profiles were outranking them despite having comparable products.
  • Only 20–30 monthly visits to service pages. The pages that drive demos and sales were getting almost no organic traffic.
  • Zero AI visibility. ComplyAssistant wasn't appearing in ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overview answers for compliance software queries.

The fundamental problem was authority. Without it, no amount of content or technical optimization alone would move the needle.

The Goal

Primary goals

  • Rank on page one for high-value commercial keywords: "healthcare GRC software," "healthcare compliance software," and "HIPAA compliance software"
  • Build domain authority through targeted backlinks from healthcare-relevant websites
  • Increase qualified organic traffic to service pages — the pages that generate leads, not just blog visits
  • Drive measurable growth in lead generation

AI visibility goals

  • Get ComplyAssistant cited in AI-generated answers when users search for healthcare compliance software
  • Secure placements in the listicles and comparison articles that ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews reference as source material

The Strategy

Our SaaS link building team executed three strategies in sequence. Technical preparation came first to ensure the site could absorb the authority that link building would deliver. Then targeted link building from healthcare-relevant SaaS websites built the domain authority Google requires to rank in YMYL categories. Finally, AI citation and roundup link building ensured ComplyAssistant appeared in AI-generated answers.

01  Website Technical Preparation

Why this came first: Link building drives authority, but that authority needs somewhere to land. If the site has crawlability issues, cannibalization problems, or structural weaknesses, backlinks won't deliver their full impact. We needed the technical foundation in place before we started building links.

What we did:

  • Content audit across all blog and service pages. We identified optimization gaps, keyword cannibalization risks, and missed keyword opportunities. Several service pages were competing against each other for the same terms, diluting ranking potential.
  • Technical SEO audit covering crawlability, indexing configuration, site structure, and page performance. We surfaced issues that were preventing Google from properly evaluating ComplyAssistant's content.
  • Technical remediation within the CMS. All issues identified in the audit were resolved — crawlability fixes, indexing configuration updates, site structure improvements, and performance optimization. This brought ComplyAssistant's technical health up to a competitive standard.

Why this mattered for link building: A technically sound site converts backlink authority into ranking improvements more efficiently. Without this preparation, the backlinks we were about to build would have had a muted impact.

02  Backlinks from related SaaS websites

Why this was the core of the engagement: In a YMYL niche like healthcare compliance, Google needs strong external validation before it will rank a website. Content and technical SEO alone are not enough. Backlinks from trusted, relevant healthcare and SaaS websites are the primary signal Google uses to determine whether a site has the authority to rank for competitive commercial terms.

This is where link building made the difference. Without it, ComplyAssistant would have remained stuck — technically sound but lacking the authority Google demands.

How we executed it:

We identified healthcare-relevant websites with strong domain ratings and real organic traffic — publications, SaaS companies in adjacent categories (EHR platforms, practice management tools, healthcare IT media), and industry resources that ComplyAssistant's target audience already reads.

For each target, we developed tailored outreach based on genuine collaboration value — not template emails. The focus was on niche relevance and editorial quality rather than volume. Every backlink we pursued had to pass two tests: would Google see this as a credible endorsement, and would ComplyAssistant's target audience actually read this website?

03  AI citation and Roundup Link Building

Why we added this: Healthcare professionals are increasingly using AI tools to research compliance software. Queries like "best HIPAA compliance software," "healthcare GRC tools," and "compliance management platforms for healthcare" are now being answered by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. These AI tools pull their answers from listicles, roundups, and comparison articles. If ComplyAssistant wasn't cited in those source articles, it wouldn't appear in AI answers — regardless of its Google rankings.

How we executed it:

We identified the specific listicles and roundup articles that AI platforms reference for healthcare compliance queries. We then secured placements for ComplyAssistant within those articles.

Example: We got ComplyAssistant featured in Medical Research's "7 White-Label HIPAA Software Solutions for Healthcare Providers in 2025" — a healthcare-specific listicle that AI platforms use as a source when generating answers about HIPAA software.

This approach covered multiple healthcare compliance categories, ensuring ComplyAssistant appeared in AI answers across GRC, HIPAA, and broader compliance queries.

THE RESULTS

Organic traffic to service pages grew 10x. Monthly visits to service pages went from 20–30 to 230–280. These aren't blog readers — these are visitors on the pages that explain what ComplyAssistant does and how to get started. Qualified traffic to service pages also doubled, meaning a higher proportion of visitors matched ComplyAssistant's ideal customer profile.

Domain authority: The 25% increase in domain rating was driven entirely by targeted backlinks from healthcare-relevant websites. This wasn't volume-based link building — it was precision placement on sites that Google recognizes as authoritative in the healthcare and SaaS space.

9 point increase in DR

600% increase in lead generation. This is the metric that counts. The combined effect of improved rankings, higher-quality traffic, and optimized service pages translated directly into business growth. Leads didn't just increase — they increased 6x. The SEO improvements weren't driving random visitors. They were driving healthcare compliance professionals who were actively looking for a solution.

AI search visibility:  ComplyAssistant went from near-zero AI visibility to appearing in AI-generated answers across all major platforms. For a healthcare compliance SaaS company, this means being part of the conversation when potential customers ask AI tools "what's the best HIPAA compliance software?" — a discovery channel that most competitors in this niche haven't addressed.
